Ok, I feel like I am getting there. There is at least another good day on the Green version of the units then I am onto the other liveries. Hopefully, fingers crossed, tocuh wood, morning mr magpie, it should be a fairly easy task..
Then the rather interesting task of adding passengers! anyway bed time for me.

Hi All,

Sorry I have not updated the blog in the last week, I've busy doing some very dull stuff.

So, I'm pretty much finished on the cab except from a few minor details and polish. I'm working on the passenger area at the moment (not passenger view just yet) and I've made a number of low polygon characters (as seen above) theat I hope to populate the train with that can be seen through the windows.

The release date for this addon has been pushed back to June the 4th, this was mainly down to me being a bit crap with my time.
Looking forward to having this finished... and it is close but so many little things to do.

With the German release, GARL and general hoo har I've barely touched the cab in a week.

So back on it and hope to have it close by the end of the week so that it can be all hooked up with the animations and for Beta testing and feedback.

Ok, 11 of the new 12 characters done. (subject to change)

All 12 heads will be using one 1024/512 texture.

I may well join the female head texture into the male heads texture then combine the 2 sets of clothing to get more out of my texture clothing wise.

Hopefully by adding glasses or hats I can get a little bit more variation.

Dynamic destination board

Ok, so hands up who wants dynamic coach/set/headcode and destination boards?
Good.

M01234#RSDEREK# typed in the loco rollout panel. ( only the coach number and destination board where set up as a test)

The coach and set number is fairly straight forward. (set number only on later versions)
There will be spaces for 11 letters/numbers in the desination board (current test only has 9), then a number of special boards that will fill the whole area for the longer and more exotic names.

The only downside is for names like LEEDS which will be fairly small and for even numbered place names they will be slightly off centre but then thats the way it works (sorry)

The head code will be done slightly different, the number in the second slot will be part of the dynamic numbering system but the B/C in the first slot (B - Ordinary Passenger, C - Empty Stock) will be part of the passenger loading.
So if the unit does not have a driver icon it will show C, If it is in service (with Passengers) it will show B.

So thats my plan, it may yet all go wrong...

I know many have been asking about when...
The plan (all being well) is for a release date of the 21st of May.

What will it include..?
Hopefully the following will be in the addon (and maybe a little more):

4 liveries - BR Green, BR Blue, BR Blue/Grey, and one more TBC.

7 units - DMCL, DMBS, DTCL, TBSL, TCL, TSL, TSLRB

The 101 DMU is not a complicated shape.

From the basic plans I created the profile and extruded along the length.

The polygons displayed will not be the final ones in game, this is still 'broad strokes' modelling.

I then set about making the front of the cab, and found an intresting compound curve that I struggled with for a few hours.

Why the 101?

Well for me it's how real trains looked.
Steam had long since gone and these were what travelled between Bishop Auckland and Saltburn.
Mostly my trips were restricted to Darlington and back, but every now and again we'd go to Redcar. (My parents have never driven so to get anywhere had to involve public transport)

I've built the 08 shunter, and the Class 37 that use to go up and down the freight line to Eastgate so the 101 had to be next to help recreate the environment of my past.

First things first, get the overall dimensions right.
I got sent some plans from the kind folks on UKTS, I set about making the 3 boxes and 4 cylinders needed to get the DMCL in RS/RWs

1 box for the body, 2 for each bogie and the 4 cylinders for the wheels. This can then be used to get the engine xml set up.

For anyone working on a loco this is the time to get it set up in the sim. It may not look like much but it is always nice to see your loco progress and have it driveable from start to finish.

Welcome to my new blog!
The purpose of this blog is to track the creative progress of my Class101 DMU for Rail Works.
Till now I have been giving little updates on my WVR blog but i'm keen to keep these 2 subjects seperated.

I started this project a number of months ago but it has never really got off the drawing board, however I've been given the green light to start it properly now.

I'll expain who/what/where/when and why as best I can and try to update it daily.
